There is no official record of when soft tennis started in Anseong.
The oldest record is found in The Maeil Sinbo, 1921: “Anseong Young Men’s Association and Suwon Young Men’s Association played soft tennis games in Anseong Public Primary School’s playground.”
Soft tennis derived from tennis. From B.C 500, Persians and Egyptians played a ball by striking it with their palms. In the 13th century, the game spread to France among the royal court, the nobles, and the clergy, which was called Jeu de Paume ("game of the palm").
It is known as the ancestor of tennis. Then, it was introduced into the United Kingdom, and in the 16th century, rackets came in to use, leading to the modern tennis.
